Perioral Dermatitis is a frustrating skin condition resembling acne, primarily affecting the area around the mouth, nose, and sometimes the eyes, known as periorbital dermatitis. It's particularly common among women aged 18 to 40. The condition may be triggered by the use of topical corticosteroids, certain cosmetic products, oral contraceptives, and ingredients found in dental care items like fluoride. People with a history of eczema may find themselves more susceptible to developing Perioral Dermatitis.
This condition manifests as small, red, or skin-colored bumps. The affected skin may also appear dry and flaky. While individuals with lighter skin might notice the rash as pink or red, it can appear purple or darker on darker skin tones. Symptoms can vary from burning and itching to no discomfort at all.
At Revelus Dermatology, our experts can provide effective management strategies for Perioral Dermatitis, including topical antibiotic treatments and, if necessary, oral antibiotics to alleviate symptoms and clear the rash.
