Before your appointment

Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup, lotions, and deodorant. If possible, avoid aspirin and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen for about 3 days beforehand, and alcohol for 24 hours, to reduce the chance of bruising. Let your provider know about any prior neuromodulator treatments and your current medications. Botox is not performed during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

During treatment

Your provider will review your goals and assess your facial movement to determine where to inject and how many units to use. The treatment area is cleansed, and injections take about 5 to 10 minutes. Most patients describe a quick pinch with each injection. Small bumps or redness at the injection sites are common and usually fade within a few hours.

After your treatment

Do not lie flat, bend over, or rub the treated area for 4 hours. Wait 4 hours before gently applying makeup. Avoid exercise, alcohol, and flying for 24 hours. Mild bruising can last up to a week. Results begin within 2 to 10 days and reach full effect at about 14 days. If any adjustments are needed, schedule a follow-up after that 14-day mark.
