what happens during a standard appointment?

You’ll receive a thorough review of your history and a focused physical exam to address up to 2–3 of your dermatologic concerns. Your provider will explain any diagnoses and outline next steps.

can I bring up a concern about skin cancer or moles during this visit?

We kindly ask that you schedule a [Skin Cancer Screening appointment] if you’re looking for a full-body mole check or evaluation of potentially cancerous spots. This allows your provider to give that concern the time and attention it deserves.

will treatment be provided during this visit?

If needed, minor diagnostic procedures like biopsies or cultures may be performed. Most treatments will be outlined in your care plan and scheduled appropriately.

how is a standard appointment different from a focused dermatology appointment?

Our Standard Appointments are thoughtfully designed to give you an overarching evaluation of your dermatological health. Focused Appointments allow for in-depth assessment of a single (focused) dermatologic concern.   

how long does a standard appointment take?

The duration can vary but usually lasts about 15 minutes on average. While we strive to address your primary concerns in this session, some issues may require more focused attention than time permits. If this is the case, we will help prioritize your concerns and may recommend scheduling additional focused appointments to ensure each concern gets the detailed attention it deserves. 

It is important to us to make every minute count and appreciate your understanding as we work to provide quality service to all our patients. 

do I need to prepare for the appointment?

Yes — we recommend removing makeup and nail polish and wearing your hair down (no sew-ins/extensions) so that all areas can be assessed. Be prepared to undress to your level of comfort so your provider can examine affected skin.

is telemedicine available for this appointment type?

Yes, depending on the concern. Virtual visits are great for medication follow-ups, acne check-ins, or reviewing non-urgent skin issues. In-person visits are preferred for full evaluations or anything requiring close inspection.
