chemical peels

Chemical Peels are a popular, non-invasive treatment designed to provide smoother, younger-looking skin by improving the skin’s texture and appearance. Specially formulated, medical-grade solutions gently remove the outermost layers of the skin to effectively address various concerns such as fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. *

common chemical peels questions

FAQ
how much does a chemical peel cost?

Every single patient is unique, and as a result, treatment plans are individualized to provide the most improved possible outcome. Price does vary based on the chemical peel and intensity chosen to address specific concerns. During your personalized, private consultation, our providers will make recommendations after listening to your needs and desires and a cost estimate will be created and communicated to you. We do remind patients that multiple treatment sessions are often recommended to obtain the best possible overall results. At Revelus Dermatology we do offer package pricing to ensure that getting the recommended number of treatments is attainable.

are chemical peels painful?

There are many types of Chemical Peels available based on strength, depths and various ingredients used. Most Chemical Peels will produce a tingling or itching sensation during the application. If a Chemical Peel is deeper or more aggressive, there may be a mild discomfort associated during the procedure. Some patients report that they feel a normal skin tightness or that their skin feels like it is warming or cooling. Overall, Chemical Peels are very tolerable.

will i need multiple chemical peel treatments?

Periodic maintenance treatments are often recommended to maintain and improve upon the results of your Chemical Peel.

what is the process of getting a chemical peel?

During your Chemical Peel, your provider will apply a chemical solution to the targeted area. The application may take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. You might feel a slight burning or stinging sensation during the application process. Depending on the type of Chemical Peel, a neutralizing agent may be applied after a period of time, or the solution may be left on. After about 2-3 days, the skin will start to peel, and the peeling may last up to about a week. Once the skin finishes peeling, you may see minor improvements in the skin. However, full results taken about 4-6 weeks to appear. Multiple treatment sessions are often recommended to obtain the best possible overall results.

how soon will i see the results from a chemical peel?

Although you may start noticing the effects of your Chemical Peel after the initial redness and flaking resolves, it can take several weeks for the true result of your Chemical Peel to be apparent. It is important to return for maintenance treatments as directed and follow all pre and post procedure instructions to obtain the best possible result.

how long do the effects of a chemical peel last?

Depending on the strength of the Chemical Peel used, effects from a Chemical Peel vary in duration. Very superficial peels may last a few months, where deeper peels can last for years. It is important to return for maintenance treatments as directed and follow all pre and post procedure instructions to obtain the best possible result.

how long does it take to recover from a chemical peel?

The recovery time for a Chemical Peel depends on the strength of the peel. A light or superficial peel typically takes about 5-7 days for the skin to heal fully. A medium or deep peel can take at least two weeks or more for recovery.

will my skin be sensitive to sunlight after a chemical peel?

Yes – the skin will be more sensitive to the sun after a Chemical Peel. It is crucial to follow all aftercare instructions provided and wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day – even if it is cloudy!

what are the risks of a chemical peel?

Chemical Peel are very safe and effective when performed by highly trained medical professionals. Depending on the intensity of the peel, it is normal to experience facial redness and scaling which can last several days. Minor swelling and even blistering can occur after a Chemical Peel. As the new skin is fresh and sensitive after a peel, it is important to avoid the sun for several weeks to prevent sunburns or further damage. Although unlikely, skin infections after a Chemical Peel are possible. It is important to review all risks and benefits associated with Chemical Peels prior to your treatment.

why should i consider a superficial chemical peel?

Lighter peels are designed for more regular, maintenance and upkeep of the skin. As they are light, they offer subtle improvements in cell turnover but will not provide as much corrective treatment as medium to deeper peels. Light peels are great if you are hoping to maintain a healthy glow.
